Match Report

Saturday saw a mixed bag of results for the 'dons' in week two of the Derbyshire Premier and County Leagues.  All 4 games went ahead, despite the weeks wet weather and dark skies on Saturday itself. Again 'Bakes' had done an incredable job to get both pitches at the SCG fit, both having standing water on Thursday.

The 1s had a good win at home to Lullington Park. Having been sent into bat the innings was stuttering at 55-3, but overseas player Grant Mokoena (55) and Ali Dixon (38) steadied the ship. Nither could go on to make a big score, but lower order contributions from James Rigg, Chris Windmill and Adam Finlay took the total to 182-8 of 45 overs when the rains came. Captain Finlay took the brave decision to declare to insure a full match took place, and it soon paid off as Paul Allen and Tom Williams took the openers out. A partnership then  brought the visitors back into the game. The spinners then took over as Chris Windmill (3-25) and Joe Ashdown (3-19) and a Josh Brear run out, saw Lullington dismissed in 102 in 33 overs.

The 2s travelled to Denby looking to bulid on last week losing draw. The hosts opted to bat, and the 'dons' kept the innings in check, not allowing Denby to take the game away. Sam Stephens was the pick of the bowlers with 4-35. Ciaran Ellard (1-23 off 13) and Matt Madeley (0-18 off 8) both bowled well. After the break, the 'dons' would have fancied their chances of knocking of 170. But it did not go to plan from the start with wickets falling regualarly as we were shot out for 81. One innings doesnt make a summer and the 2s need to keep a positive attitude in their first year bacl in Div 3.

The 3s travelled to West Park to face Sawley. Lee Fox won the toss and bowled, and Ashani Jones (4-14) was soon in the action, with the quickie blasting out the top order. He was well supported with tight bowling from the other end by James Fisher and Chintan Desai. 'Foxy' then turned to the off spin of Simon Fearn, who had took a slight detour to Long Eaton, arriving at Uttoxeter, in a classic 'Fearny' moment. He took his frustration of the 40 miles wrong turn out on the hosts, returning 6-24 of 9.2 overs to dismiss Sawley for 86. The reply was a ground out effort on a difficult wickets, with experianced pair Steve Baker (38) and Lee Fox (21) the main contributors, as the total was passed 7 down.

The 4s hosted Belper Amateurs at the SCG. 'Bass' won the toss and elected to bowl. Steady progress was made by the visitors, until the skipper turned to his own brand of off spin to turn the tide. He soon started causing havoc and return figures of 5-40, which could of been more with a few catches going to ground. The reply for the 'dons' started superbly, with youngster George Twigg (39) and Isacc Harrison (43) putting on 90 for the first wicket. Once these to parted, the momentum was lost and the innings fell 6 short on 157-8.
